Jemi + Ramon, Part One

Jemi + Ramon’s wedding was a celebration of two souls from different corners of the world coming together in a city that symbolises change and progress. Our groom, an Australian expat with Italian-Irish roots and our bride, whose parents were African Gambian expatriates, embarked on a remarkable journey that spanned continents and cultures.

They chose the picturesque Yarra Valley in Australia as their dream wedding destination, a place that resonated with Ramon's heritage and provided the perfect backdrop to bring their loved ones together. However, as fate would have it, the world was struck by the global pandemic, and their Yarra Valley wedding plans were put on hold. Like many couples around the world, Jemi and Ramon faced the heartbreak of postponing their special day.

But love and resilience prevailed, and for the last 3 years, I have been working closely with Jemi and Ramon to bring to fruition a new vision. Finally, they had the opportunity to celebrate their love in a way they had never imagined—in the heart of Washington, D.C. Their wedding venue was the iconic Hay Adams hotel, with its breathtaking view of the White House, but more iconically, it overlooked the Black Lives Matter Plaza.

Their venue became a place where alongside their loved ones they could stand together in solidarity with the Black community, demonstrating their shared values and hope for their children’s future, unburdened by prejudice.

I am humbled and honoured to have been included within this journey and grateful to have new friends for life xx
